Welcome to McCoy Blades and Stone.
Alan McCoy
Alan McCoy has been making custom knives since 1998.
Alan is an avid outdoorsman and designs knives that are both functional, as well as good looking.
Knife blades are made from ATS34 stainless steel bar stock.
ATS34 was selected because of it's ability to hold a edge and ease of maintenance.
Each blade is heat treated and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 58 or 59.
Handle materials are made from various materials, including antler, horn, bone, exotic woods and ivory.
Each knife includes Alan's signature file work, making each knife unique and a one of a kind.
Once the knife has been finished, it is handed over to Tammy McCoy to complete the package.
Tammy provides the leather work and designs a custom sheath for each knife.
The leather is cut and shaped to fit the knife, and then dyed to match the knife handle.
Sheaths can be made for either left or right handed users.
Tammy will also accept orders for just custom sheaths.
To guarantee a correct fit, the knife will be required.
Alan maintains a inventory or will accept custom orders.
Tammy McCoy
Tammy has been creating art for the past 20 years.
She started with two dimensional art, working with pastels, then oils and finally acrylics.
Upon moving to Central Texas, Tammy fell in love with the fossils and began carving them.
She was amazed that something thirty million to three hundred million years old could be so perfectly preserved.
Her vision was to join the past to the present.
In 2001 the local CBS affiliate aired an expose highlighting her and her fossil sculptures.
In the last few years Tammy has expanded her sculptures to include larger pieces, made from Central Texas limestone.
The fossils are also limestone, so it is a medium she is familiar with.
Tammy has taken formal classes from a local master in stone work.
Tammy maintains an inventory of her work, but is always available to do commissioned work.
